Comment:
Ancylostoma duodenale & Strongyloides stercoralis filariform larvae; 700 microns and 600 x 20 microns respectively. Strongyloides larvae have a slit in the tail while the hookworm filariform larvae have a pointed tail - obtained by using agar plate culture of faeces. Formed faeces may be kept for several days at 4C or fixed with 10 percent formalin. To detect light infections of hookworm, Strongyloides or Trichostrongylus sp. faeces should not be refrigerated and should be cultured; modified agar plate method (Koga et al 1991) is recommended; warranted in those travelling from endemic areas or ex-prisoners of war.
